Adding MONARC a Sound Decision
Mark Hartzell Builds on Successful History with McCauley

"I’ve never had anyone refuse McCauley Sound rider wise, which says something about the quality of the product. With so many big shows and festivals coming through here this summer, it’s important to have a crowd pleaser of a sound reinforcement line."

Sound Decision Productions recently expanded their MONARC line array system after several years of successful events using their nearly all-McCauley rig. Mark Hartzell, Owner and Head of Systems Engineering is optimistic about expanding his capabilities after the overwhelming positive responses he has enjoyed from promoters and audiences alike. Sound Decisions, based in Waterford, Wisconsin, specializes in live events throughout the region and with their latest additions, are looking to now target events at the 10,000 seat levels and beyond.

Sound Decisions added 4 MONARC MLA3 line array cells, 16 CSM88 subwoofers, 6 SM72 2 stage monitors, and 2 SA255’s LF modules to their already substantial McCauley live package. “We’ve been doing larger shows,” said Hartzell, “and our customers have been asking for the MONARC rig more and more. It put SDP in a position to either cross-rent, or not do the show. Ultimately I knew the best investment was to just buy more. Couldn't hurt right?”

When asked how the MONARC system has worked out for his company, Mark replied “I’ve never had anyone refuse McCauley Sound rider wise, which says something about the quality of the product. With so many big shows and festivals coming through here this summer, it’s important to have a crowd pleaser of a sound reinforcement line.”

Hartzell also cited that the SM72 is one of his favorite cabinets. “People really like them. I use them for everything from floor monitors, to speakers on a stick, to fills, either side or front. It’s a great little cabinet, with a fair amount of SPL to work for some bigger productions that I would be afraid to use other small cabinets for. It’s excellent for stacking on an SA255. Those two together make a really nice drum monitor.”

Continuing, Hartzell thinks that it was the right time to “beef up” his subwoofer arsenal with the CSM88. “I really like the double 18, it’s a quality sounding sub, and for how much they do, they’re hardly expensive! The MONARC MLA3 is just a fantastic line array at any price but it sure doesn’t hurt that it's priced so competitively.”
